Winter knits for a summer’s day
January 28th, 2009So, inspired by Julia and then by Libby, I am here offering, to anyone who wishes, a Thing. Specifically, a knitted thing. If you would like a knitted thing, post your preferences (socks, hat, gloves, scarf, etc) in the comments. You can even specify a color if you’d like, though there’s no guarantee that I have it. If you are of the knitterly persuasion and have a particular pattern you’d like me to try my hand at, by all means!
Are there any restrictions on what you can ask for? Not really! I mean, if you ask for an afghan you will get it much much later than the person who asks for a scarf, but I hope to finish all projects of reasonable size within about three months.
It’s cold now; the roads were covered with ice on my way home, and besides, I want another knit-challenge to keep myself occupied with while working through my great-great-grandmother’s lace.  It won’t be so bitterly cold by the time you get your knit thing (so we can hope?) but you can keep it around for next winter.
Hey, Katherine, I’d love a pair of socks, at your convenience - any color or pattern that strikes your fancy. I liked the ones that Nadja made for you, and that you made for Martha, so much that I’d thought I might try making a pair for myself - but realistically, that’s not going to happen. So, if you have time….
Thanks,
Mom

Can you knit a shawl? Perhaps in purple?
Comment by Libby — January 28, 2009 @ 12:45 am
Oh, I’d love something! Socks are always a winner, but if you are tired of socks, a scarf, or some fingerless gloves (with or without a mitten top), or really anything would be most welcome. Including cuddly undersea horrors.

I am actually in desperate need of a hat. I prefer blues, nature greens, or black. And no pompom. ;p

Hi Katherine! Any chance you can make me a blue or green hat? You’re so awesome!

Oh: Do you need yarn?

Is there any way I could get a thing of interest but no utility whatsoever? Such things are my favorite! I hope you are well, and I hope that I am well. I should be writing right now, but I lack the coherence to do so properly.

Hooray! All kinds of fun projects! I will keep you apprised of my progress.
By way of managing expectations, I feel obliged to inform you that my socks are AWESOME. (wait, I think managing expectations is supposed to work the other way? Never mind - awesome is indeed what they are in a most superlative degree. Possibly I just appreciate warm feet more than most people; my sister-in-law made me a pair of socks that are my absolute favorite to this very day, partly because of their bright purple color and partly because of their delicious warmth.)

Oh, and Sarah - if you have a yarn that oyu’d particularly like me to make you something in, I’d be happy to do it, but I have a fair amount stashed.

I would love gloves, wool or something warm and thick. Fingerless gloves with mitten tops as described by Julia sound lovely. But I am requesting late, so don’t feel obliged!

Do I count too? Can you make me some socks? And then teach me how to make them? Cause that would be pretty cool. Color doesn’t matter. I’ll take anything. And I know it’s not really winter anymore, but there’s never a wrong time to have socks!

Update: I have made:
Green hat for Sarah
Space socks for Julia
I am about 4/5s done with Libby’s Lavender shawl.
I have the yarn for everything else.
