Keep movin’, movin’, movin’…
Time for a life update: I am in my new house. I will be in this new house for a maximum grand total of a month. Why, you ask, would anyone do a fool thing like subject themselves to the ordeal of moving twice inside a space that can fit in the short-term memory? Well, just before moving into this place (taking over from a friend gone overseas; sharing the house with another friend) I discovered that the landlord was going to be selling it. Hail and farewell.
It’s a real pity because now I’m getting all attached and I’ve been here for only slightly longer than 24 hours. I like the large windows and the high ceilings, I like the stone staircase and the mirrored wall, and I like the neighborhood, a positively forest-floor mix of renewal and decay. Oh well, it’s back to craigslist for me as I search for something in the DC area under 1k. The other problem is now I’m starting to have preferences. Something near a metro. Something on the red line. Something not in a basement (the primate in me wants to be up in a tree rather than burrowed into the ground, also I apparently become depressed and lethargic when deprived of sunlight). Now, it seems, I want something in Northeast. Picky, picky.
I’ve been doing a lot of moving lately. If I were a novelist, I think I might get a job as a mover; you get to see almost as many interesting and revealing things about people’s character as, say, a butler does. Actually, David Sedaris already did that, right? Anyway.
We are neighbors, as we just moved, too. We’ll have to exchange visits (and soon!).
